The Municipality of Tweed’s main priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors. We are committed to the safety of our staff and the public and the best method of protection was to put a vaccination policy in place. On November 10, 2021,Council passed a by-law mandating a policy that all employees and volunteers of the Municipality of Tweed must provide proof of vaccination by January 8, 2022 or be put on unpaid leave. As of January 9, 2022, six members of the Tweed Fire Department did not provide proof of vaccination and we do respect their decision. However, our policy requires that they be put on unpaid leave.

The Tweed Fire Department continues to provide excellent service to our residents and has twenty-five fire fighters who are in adherence of the vaccination policy. There is no risk to public safety .

On Friday, January 7, 2022,the Tweed Fire Department was on scene of a devastating structure fire in our municipality. Due to the severity of the weather and the rural location mutual aid was called into assist. This is normal practice to call mutual aid for large fires which includes ,but not limited to, structure fires, grass fires, and large accidents. The Tweed Fire Department also provides mutual aid to our neighbouring municipalities and these mutual aid agreements will continue in the foreseeable future.

We want to thank our fire fighters for continuing to provide service to our residents and visitors. The Tweed Fire Department and Municipality of Tweed wants to assure our residents that the safety and well-being is our number one priority.
