Starting in July 2025, commercial/institutional businesses and organizations in Ontario will no longer have curbside recycling collection. This change is part of the Province of Ontario’s transition to an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, which shifts the responsibility for recycling from municipalities to the producers of packaging and printed materials.

· No More Curbside Collection for Businesses/Organizations: Commercial establishments, including offices, restaurants, and retail stores, must now arrange their own recycling services.
· Producers Take Responsibility: Companies that manufacture or distribute packaging materials will be responsible for funding and managing recycling efforts under the new EPR system.
Businesses/Organizations Must Adapt: Organizations will need to partner with private recycling providers or join a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) to ensure compliance.
What Should Businesses Do?
1. Find a Recycling Service: Businesses should contact private waste management companies to set up recycling pickup.
2. Reduce and Optimize Packaging: Switching to easily recyclable or reusable pack-aging.
3 Stay Informed: Keep up with new regulations from the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) to avoid penalties and ensure compliance.
