Storm Damages August 2nd Update

The Municipality of Tweed is still in a State of Emergency and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. The emergency control group continues to meet and are in a transitional stage. We have moved from the initial emergency response and are working towards addressing the remaining hazards. Once these hazards have been addressed, we will move into the recovery stage.
The current fire status is very high, and as a result of the of the tornado, there is a significantly increased risk of wildfires. Please be extremely careful if you are doing any burning and check the municipal website daily to see if a burn ban has been put in place. Fire permits are still expected, and all brush burning is required to be reported as directed on the fire permit.
The Municipality is working with the Ministry and other levels of government to assess property damages. Today a tour was completed to some of the affected properties with Ministry, Municipal, and Team Rubicon Canada representatives. The remaining assessment is now with the Ministry’s insurance adjuster.
There are several volunteer organizations that will be in the area this week to assist the most vulnerable – the uninsured, under insured, elderly, and those with accessibility needs. The three organizations that are involved in this include Team Rubicon Canada, Mennonite Disaster Services and Christian Aid Ministries. These organizations will be able to assist with property clean up with a focus on brush relocation. To request support, residents can email request_assistance@teamrubicon.ca. Team Rubicon Canada will be identified by wearing a grey Team Rubicon Canada shirt.
Byers Enterprises will accept any brush and trees for disposal for $60/tonne. They are located at 67 Hawkins Bay Road. The Municipal waste site on Marlbank Road will continue to accept brush only during regular operating hours at no cost.
Public works has now cleared all roads. However, we urge motorists to utilize caution when driving on the roads in the affected areas. Many trees were compromised from the storm and in high winds, may continue to fall onto roadways.
The water tap at the arena is available for large container filling between 8:30 am and 8:00 pm.
For anyone having issues with their insurance company, please note the following information from the Insurance Bureau of Canada:
“For those that have been affected that require assistance/have questions about insurance, they can contact their insurance representative or IBC's (Insurance Bureau of Canada) Consumer Information Centre at 1-844-227-5422 or via email ConsumerCentre@ibc.ca”.
