Welcome to the Municipality of Tweed!

Season's Greetings

Wow! Wasn't that a fantastic year?  2017 is almost over and with it our Canada 150 celebrations come to an end. It seems that it was only a few weeks ago that the planning started to celebrate this Canadian milestone.

With so many events, this was one of the busiest years I can remember over the past 14 years I have been Mayor. Thank you to all the organizations, service clubs, and Hamlet Committees who organized so many fun family events and made Canada 150 a year to remember.

It started in January with our 1st Black Crappie ice fishing tournament, followed by a kids tournament in February along with the Annual Winter Carnival.  The Tweed Horticultural Society hosted the Regional Horticultural Annual meeting celebrating our Country's birth and the Lions Club International celebrated their 100th Anniversary with a tree giveaway that will remind us often of Canada 150.  In the Spring our annual Black Crappie tournament was sold out.  The summer celebrations started with the Thomasburg Heritage Day, and dedication of the beautiful wood-carved statue of Thomas Clare.  Canada Day celebrations followed in Tweed with a great parade and all day and evening activities closing with an awesome display of fireworks.

We were pleased to be hosts to Hastings The Musical which had a run at the Kiwanis Pavilion in early July.  What an incredible show and performances!

Food Network's Chuck and Danny's Road Trip traveled coast to coast in the summer of 2016 celebrating farmers and food products for Canada's 150th.  The Municipality of Tweed was chosen as one of six episodes showcasing our region.  You can watch the entire episode below that aired on tv this past spring.

The annual Tweed Fair was next with many special activities for the children.  Our Yoga and Wine retreats in July and August were also very successful.  The Farm to Table Community Dinner was amazing with so many families coming home to enjoy an old-fashioned community dinner.  The Tweed Stampede welcomed in over 12,000 visitors to our municipality, and even Elvis celebrated Canada's birthday with Indigenous participation during the weekend events.

September was very busy also with the wonderful Historical Queensborough Day, Feast from Farm and Touch a Truck at the Fairgrounds.  The Kiwanis Club of Tweed also had a very special 65 year celebration. The annual Tweed and Area Studio Tour drew many people to our community.  A successful Harvestfest, supported by all organizations in the Municipality, ended the month. Tweed was All Dressed Up For Christmas in November and the year ended with another very successful Festival of Trees and Santa Claus Parade.

My reason for wanting to share most events is to say “Thank You” to all the wonderful volunteers, because if it were not for our dedicated volunteers these events would not take place.  Council is so appreciative of all that volunteers do.

Thank you to all our permanent and seasonal residents who attended the activities because without your participation they wouldn't have been so successful.

Council and I wish each and every one of you all the best in this holiday season and a safe and Happy New Year!
