Welcome to the Municipality of Tweed!

Back to News
March 31st Covid-19 Update

The Municipality of Tweed continues to monitor the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Municipality of Tweed wishes to release the following information to the community:

Message from Mayor Jo-Anne Albert

Today at 12 noon I declared a State of Emergency for the Municipality of Tweed in support of the Provincial declaration, March 17, 2020 and the Hastings County declaration, March 26, 2020.  This is a pro-active measure that provides additional assurance of support for the health and safety of our residents and staff.

The Regular Council Meeting scheduled for April 8th has been cancelled.  Future council meetings will be held via teleconference or video conference.

Municipal Parks and Playgrounds

The Province of Ontario has ordered the closure of all communal or shared, public or private, outdoor recreational amenities across Ontario in order to help stem the transmission of COVID-19.  In accordance with this order effective immediately the Municipality of Tweed has closed all municipal parks, recreation areas and boat launches.  These areas will be cordoned off, please respect their boundaries.

Waste Site and Recycling Centre

The Municipal Waste facility is now restricting access to 3 vehicles at a time.  This is for the health and safety of our staff and residents to allow for proper social distancing.  It is also now required that residents deposit their own recycling in the appropriate bins.

Property Tax, Water & Sewer and Dog Tag Renewals

Municipal Council passed a resolution at the March 24th Council Meeting to extend the due date for property taxes from March 31st to May 29th.  Dog Tags will also remain at $15 until May 29th.  Water & Sewer bills will be issued the beginning of April.  They will be due May 29th instead of April 30th.

For those who are experiencing financial difficulties, the Municipality offers monthly payment plans allowing you to spread your yearly taxes into smaller monthly payments.  Forms can be found on our website https://tweed.ca/formsc5.

Seasonal Residents

For our seasonal residents who have chosen to spend this time in our area we ask you to please self-isolate appropriately for 14 days. We have amazing service providers and businesses in our area who will help you get the supplies you need, but we are asking that everyone do their part to physically distance themselves as recommended by Public Health.

Sewer and Septic Safety

Please refrain from flushing paper towel, sanitary products or wipes down your toilet. These products are not designed to be flushable and should be placed in your garbage.

Quinte Waste

Recycling is not cancelled. If you are being quarantined due to recent travel or have potentially been exposed to COVID-19, please put your recycling out after your quarantine is complete.

Municipal Office

The Municipal Office remains closed to the public, but staff are still working.  Staff remain available to respond to inquiries and can be reached at 613-478-2535.  We encourage you to sign up for Council Notices to stay informed on all Municipal News.  Sign up on the main page of our website at tweed.ca.  This Media Release along with prior releases and videos from Mayor Albert can be found on our new COVID-19 page https://tweed.ca/covid.

Burn Ban

As of, March 19, 2020 a total burn ban remains in effect for the Municipality of Tweed, including open air burning.  Dry conditions and heavy wind gusts, along with the implications of COVID-19, and concern for the health and safety of our volunteer firefighters makes this necessary.
