Native Bees in Ontario

Native Bees in Ontario

Date:January 24, 2021
Time:7:00pm - 9:00pm
Location:Huntington Veterans Community Hall, 11379 Highway 62, Ivanhoe
When it comes to field crops, flowers, fruit and vegetables, our native bees are the workhorses of the pollinator world. Find out more on January 24, when the Hastings Stewardship Council hosts the first event in their 2019 Winter Speaker Series - Native Bees in Ontario: Introduction, Challenges, and Action. Bee advocate Susan Willis Chan will present an intriguing story of diversity, starring our native bees. After years of bee research and field work (in her past role at Farms at Work: www.farmsatwork.ca), Susan has many photos to share and stories to tell about bee behaviour and bee services. Learn more about the challenges and benefits that bees face in agricultural environments. The presentation will highlight foraging scenarios provided by crops, purposeful pollinator habitat created by farmers and others, insecticide exposure and effects, and pesticide exposure routes. Susan is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Guelph while teaching Sustainable Agriculture at Trent University. Susan has a background in agriculture, environmental biology (pollination), and education.
Admission Fee:$5.00 per person. Children are free
