Camp Sagonaska

Camp Sagonaska is an outdoor wilderness camp occupying 14 hectares of land in the Vanderwater Conservation Area located 15 miles north of Belleville off HWY#37. The camp has a main building, 2 cabins, 3 overhead picnic shelters, outdoor chapel and a ceremonial campfire area. There are 15kms of trails to hike or cross-country ski. The mighty Moira river is located across the road from the camp for swimming, canoeing and fishing. The conservation area is a naturalists dream with many different varieties of trees, bushes, birds, small animals, wildflowers, fruits and yes even "insects". It is an excellent area for conducting orienteering courses, outdoor wilderness first aid instruction, canoeing courses, outdoor skills courses but at the same time is a very quiet area where retreats and large picnics can be held. The longhouse can sleep 8 adults and 14 youth in the bunkroom, each cabin can accommodate 16 persons and the 4 open campgrounds and 1 sheltered campground can house 400 campers. There is parking available for 50 vehicles while the open football field size parade square is available to conduct all group activities. The longhouse is heated with 2 fireplaces and firewood is provided as part of the longhouse rental fee. The kitchen is fully equipped with fry pans, stockpots, cooking utensils, water/juice jugs and roasting pans. Rental of the camp is available 12 months of the year to all scouting, guiding, non-scouting youth Organizations as well as school boards, colleges, universities, church organizations and Service Clubs. In order to rent the camp you must show proof of liability insurances coverage with a minimum of 2 million dollars of coverage. Camp Sagonaska may be booked by the day, week or weekend. You may pick the keys up from the Camp Chief and keys must be returned immediately after your camp is closed. A camp crest is available for purchase from the camp warden only (Don Sinclair) at a cost of $4.00 each. The multi-coloured crest is approximately 4" x 2". All funds raised from crest sales go back into the camp.
