The Municipality of Tweed knows that accessibility is not only about ramps and automatic door openers. It is about understanding that tourists with disabilities may have different needs - and we strive to learn how to address these needs.
Approximately 13.5 per cent of Ontarians have a disability, or one in every seven citizens, and they like to travel with family and friends.
Our Municipality acknowledges that Ontario is attempting to be a leader in addressing accessibility issues. Ontario's tourism sector invites people around the world to come and experience our culture, so accessibility represents an opportunity. The Municipality is proud of the recent accessibiity upgrades at Queensborough, Actinolite, Thomasburg, and the Lions Hungerford Community Hall. We would like to thank the Accessibility Fund Program which is a federal program under Human Resources and Skills Development Canada for their assistance with the project.
