The Municipality of Tweed is an amalgamated municipality comprised of the former Township of Hungerford, Townships of Elzevir and Grimsthorpe and Village of Tweed. The newly amalgamated Municipality of Tweed was incorporated as of January 1st, 1998 as a lower tier municipality within the County of Hastings two tier governing system.

The Municipality of Tweed consists of one urban centre, the Village of Tweed, which houses 30% of the total population, as well as the hamlets of Marlbank, Thomasburg, Stoco, Actinolite and Queensborough and a large rural area stretching from Wadsworth Lake in the north to Roslin at the south border; the hamlets and the rural area make up the balance of the total population of 5,153.

The number of households in the Municipality of Tweed is approximately 2926; the total land area is approximately 230,000 acres, of which 30% is Crown land. The municipality’s many lakes, rivers and streams cover approximately 4,650 acres; over 600 kilometres of roads run throughout the municipality.

The Municipality of Tweed has a total 2009 property assessment of $411,000,000. comprised of 84% residential, 6% farm, 5% commercial and industrial, and 5% other categories.
